WHO WE ARE

Built by people who have been on both sides of the funding table.

Vantage was founded on a specific observation: the skills that win grant applications, sector expertise and application craft, are rarely available in the same place in a small organisation. We were built to change that.

OUR STORY

The funding gap we kept seeing

Every small charity and community organisation we worked with had the same problem. They were doing vital work. They were eligible for grant funding from multiple sources. And they were losing, year after year, to organisations with professional fundraisers who wrote better applications, not organisations with better programmes.

The fix was not complicated in principle. What small organisations needed was a combination of two specific skills that are almost never available together at a price they could afford: someone who understood how funders think and what successful applications look like, and someone who could manage the research, pipeline, and submission logistics at a pace and volume that made the approach systematic rather than opportunistic.

Vantage was founded to put those two skills together, as a named pair, for every organisation we work with.

The application knowledge gap. Writing a competitive grant application requires specific skills: theory of change framing, outcomes measurement vocabulary, governance narrative, and an understanding of how different funders weight different criteria. A CEO who is excellent at running a youth programme is not automatically excellent at writing the application that funds it. These are genuinely different skills.

The funder landscape gap. Most organisations apply to the funders they know about — typically five to fifteen. The real funder landscape for a Tower Hamlets community organisation has over 200 relevant trusts, foundations and statutory programmes. Vantage knows where to look.

THE VANTAGE PAIR

Every Vantage client has a named pair from the start.

Not a team. Not a rotating roster. A named senior bid-writer and a named funding researcher and pipeline manager, assigned to your organisation at the outset and accountable throughout.

Your senior bid-writer

Carries the track record of winning grants, in many cases from having held senior roles in the sectors your funders support, or from having served on grant panels themselves. Writes in the language funders use in their assessment frameworks. Leads the funder relationship from the application through to the outcome conversation.

Brings to your application

  • Theory of change framing and outcomes language
  • Sector credibility and funder relationship experience
  • Track record of successful applications at equivalent scale

Your funding researcher and pipeline manager

Maintains your complete funder landscape using 360Giving, Funding Central, NCVO databases, and direct funder research. Tracks every deadline, manages every submission package, stores every piece of evidence your applications draw on, and logs every piece of funder feedback to improve the next round.

Brings to your pipeline

  • Full funder landscape research and opportunity identification
  • Deadline tracking, submission logistics and outcome recording
  • Evidence library maintenance — case studies, accounts, impact data
OUR PHILOSOPHY

The mission is fundable. The application is the variable.

Honest about eligibility

We will tell you if a funder is wrong for your organisation before you spend time on the application. Applying to funders who are unlikely to award, at the cost of funders who are well-matched, is one of the most common and most damaging patterns in small-charity fundraising. We do not do it.

Feedback used, not filed

Every rejection includes information about why. Most organisations file that feedback or ignore it. We log it, review it, and apply it directly to the next application. The organisations that improve their success rate fastest are the ones that treat declined applications as market research.

Your words, not ours

We write in your organisation's voice, drawing on your evidence and your staff's knowledge of the work. The application is yours — Vantage provides the structure, the language and the funder knowledge. The programme and the passion belong to you.

OUR FOUNDING

Founded through the InterGen

Vantage was incubated through InterGen, a social venture that pairs unemployed professionals over 50 with unemployed 18-to-30-year-olds to build new online service businesses together. The pairing is not cosmetic. It is the business logic.

The two skills Vantage is built on — the application knowledge and sector standing of a senior bid-writer, and the pipeline research and operational discipline of a digital native — are precisely the skills the InterGen pairing produces.

Vantage is an independent trading business. We are accountable to the organisations we serve for the outcomes we deliver, measured in funding secured and in the quality of the funder relationships we build on their behalf.

The gap in the small charity funding market is not a shortage of funders. It is a shortage of organisations who can write the applications that reach them. That is the specific gap Vantage was built to fill.
